Barbara - Algarve
The session that Barbara (not her real name) had with Douglas was not so much a story as a series of questions and answers which left her totally amazed. Details about her past, her family and what was happening in her life now were completely accurate, even though she had never met Douglas before. Here are just some of the questions and answers and Barbara’s comments:
Question: I have two job offers at the moment that I am considering. Should it be A (which she described) or B ( which she described)?
Answer: Job B, definitely. Put all of your energy into it and focus on it. It does not seem so glamorous, but in the long term it will be better for you. It will be successful
Barbara: Douglas did not know this, but another one of his clients also asked him the same question – she will be my partner in whichever project we take. He gave her exactly the same answer, and for exactly the same reasons.
Question: Will my parents come to live here in Portugal?
Answer: They are looking to spend some time here, aren’t they? Stop putting pressure on them, let them experience it, let them make up their own minds.
Barbara: My parents are coming over for an extended holiday in a couple of months. I have been nagging them increasingly, and I understand now that this is not the best thing to do!
Question: I need to know exactly how my father’s father died.
Answer: He was surrounded by fumes when he died. Your father feels that there was foul play involved, doesn’t he?
Barbara: This is amazing. When I was a child, I was told my grandfather died in a car accident, but about three years ago my father said he was sure there was some foul play, and those were his exact words . . .
Question: How did my mother’s sister pass?
Answer: It was to do with breathing, she was about 8 to 10 years old.
Barbara: Again, this is absolutely right. I gave him no indication of age, or of cause of death. My mother only told me when I was around 18 that she had had a sister, who drowned when she was 8 years old.
Barbara: “Douglas also told me that I wanted to get away from the Algarve, that I was not sure it was my home. I had not admitted that to anyone, possibly not even to myself, and yet when I thought about it afterwards, I realized it was absolutely true. I could not have given him any clues about that to pick up on. It was only when I was back home after the session that I understood how right he was, not only about this, but about everything that we covered during the session. So many things were explained, so many questions answered, I came away with a totally fresh awareness and understanding of the key issues in my life.”
