Energy Practitioner

Even if it has almost fallen into oblivion with us nowadays, it is still carried out, by many perhaps instinctively and only unconsciously: the hands-on-healing. What does a mother do if her child falls and hurts itself? She takes it in her arm and rubs the painful place. A completely naturally thing to do, a simplicity as a basic form of healing. The Englishman Douglas Ballard has completely dedicated himself to healing. With a lecture in Klagenfurt one could get to know more about his story and about hands-on-healing in general. Text: Christine Jeremias

The evening where the association “Caminame – Person and spirituality” had invited to the lecture of Douglas Ballard about the healing, the hall of the community centre Waidmannsdorf was more than filled. Numerous people had appeared to find out more about healing. The image, how someone would expect a hands-on healer to look like, who has dedicated his life completely to healing, were probably various. Who expected a man who would appear as a magician with long white hair and a cape, was disappointed. Douglas Ballard enters the room completely unspectacularly like all others through the door, dressed in a dark suit with a plastic bag of Harrods in his hand.

Warning of the British humour

Pretty unusual are the things, which he tries to bring closer to the public. However, at the beginning of his lecture it should be warned about the notorious British humour, with which some Austrians sometimes have trouble to cope with. So healing is no deadly serious affair, and neither is the story that Douglas tells about his career. He started his professional career in another branch, the lighting industry in England where he has worked along in many projects. As an ambitious young man he became the youngest president of the lighting industry in his early thirties.

From businessman to healer

His successful career had a sudden end when Douglas got laid off at the age of forty-five. Not enough: Douglas had to fight with painful back problems – neither scientific medicine nor alternative medicine seemed to help him. Finally a friend of his recommended him to visit a healer. So he did. His scepticism was gone after the first treatments. However, up to this moment Douglas still didn’t think that he could also be a healer. Shortly after this experience, he visited a medium who should tell him more about his future career. The medium predicted a career as a healer in the USA. This appeared to be unlikely for the Englishman. All the more he was surprised some months later during a ski vacation in Aspen, USA. He spontaneously explained to a woman who had hurt herself in a accident that he was able to help her. Without exactly knowing what he was doing, he laid his hands on the painful neck of the woman. After some moments all her complaints had disappeared.

Healing through energy

This encounter was the beginning. Meanwhile Douglas already helped hundreds of people with all possible sufferings. The main question of the evening was, how this healing works, And the answer is a simple as the question and still shifts in astonishment. Basically the healer is no one else than a middleman: he is able to build up a connection to the “cosmic energy” and hands this energy on to his patient’s body, in which it ought to effect certain places. In this way back pains can be treated as well like joint problems, migraine or sleeplessness. And basically each possesses the ability to use their hands to heal, we must only activate this gift and learn to handle it. In England where healers are approved by law and also work together with medical science, there exists a union called “Kent Healers” where people can get a training to become a healer. The training consists of basic knowledge and also rules of etiquette. Also anatomical facts are trained.

Healer in Klagenfurt

But not only in England people work in this field. Also in Klagenfurt there are possibilities to learn more about healing. The association “Caminame – person and spirituality” which is led by Melanie Gaggl and her mother Renate stands in close contact with Douglas Ballard and the Kent Healers. “Caminame” would like to help his members to find a physical, mental and energetic balance and lead them to the activation of the self-cure forces and a spiritual awareness. Many people are interested in this topic, also have knowledge and experience in this field, but don’t dare to go in public, because you would still be called a wacko. “Caminame” would like to start here and be a platform for all which work on this field. Perhaps the healing is not thereby recognized also in Austria as a supplement – as a substitute – to the orthodox medicine and is not taken as more than piece of mischief. Who would like to get more information about the association, should visit www.caminame.com or contact 0650/9696669 for detailed information.

Anyhow, Douglas Ballard has impressively shown with his lecture that healing is everything else than wackiness and convinced many with the effectiveness of this method. And if we are honest to ourselves: even if we lack nothing serious, a little positive energy can probably harm none of us.
